Inclusive education should strengthen the field of material conditions and factors associated with quality, but must also commit itself to the quality of the learning process to promote the work of collaborative and innovative; lessons learned should be relevant with relevance and social commitment.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, October 4th and 5th, the Languages Department of the Central University carried out the socialization of the students' classroom projects (Pre-Intermediate I). The event was accomplished in the two locations of the campus and counted with the presence of Ruth Dominguez, some teachers of our Department and students of different careers who showed great commitment and interest in this event. The interests of the students were acclaimed and conducted entirely in English. The Department aims to generate students interdisciplinary work and establish connections between English learning and the areas of training of our learners. This project is part of the work of 'Awareness campaign', whose aim is to make aware the students of the importance of knowing English in their areas disciplines.

What is even more important and as an academic unit of our University entity, each semester will be more committed and interested in maintaining this type of activity we hope that each semester the centralist community participation is most significant in future socializaciones.

A new celebration coming soon...

Ancient Origins of Halloween

Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.

To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other's fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.

Halloween is the modern name for Samhain, an ancient Celtic holy day which many Neopagans — especially Wiccans, Druids and Celtic Reconstructionists — celebrate as a spiritual beginning of a new year.
Halloween is a time to confront our personal and cultural attitudes towards death and those who have passed on before us.
Halloween is a time to lift the veil between the many material and spiritual worlds in divination, so as to gain spiritual insight about our pasts and futures.
Halloween is a time to deepen our connection to the cycles of the seasons, to the generations that have come before us and those that will follow, and to the Gods and Goddesses we worship.
Halloween is a time to let our inner children out to play, to pass on our childhood traditions to our children, and to share the fun with our friends and neighbors of many other faiths. So…

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man awoke in the night.
