SUMMER IN BOGOTA?

SUMMER IN BOGOTA?
By RodriguezUC

One of the main cultural and recreational events in Bogota is the Festival de Verano 2009. During the week of August 7 to 17, people from Bogota have the opportunity to enjoy the 13th version of this famous event. Activities include canoeing, swimming, boxing and gymnastics among others. The main point of interest is Parque Metropolitano Simon Bolivar. This year, some of the new attractions include: Summer Beach (Playa de Verano) where all the citizens will find some beach chairs, sand castles, tropical music, and kites, among others. All the attractions in Summer Beach make people feel like if they were in the Colombian Coast.

On August 17, tourists and locals may appreciate some cultural diversity by attending traditional Joropo Dance from the Colombian plains. More than 1200 dancers accompanied by lively music will entertain the audience with this traditional dance. There will also be a stage for those who want to do some exercise. The organization of this event wants to have a new Guinness Record by having more than 40.000 people for more than two hours exercising. Also, on August 16, more than 1200 Harley Davidson motorcycles will have their parade which will end at Parque Simón Bolivar.

The Summer Festival also offers a variety of concerts. There will be three thematic nights: The Tango Festival is on August 10, the Afrocolombian night is on August 11, and the Vallenato is on August 12. On August 14, people will enjoy a concert by Calle 13 and on August 15 Laser Dance under the moon which will bring the best Colombian DJs together. The closing ceremony will take place on August 17, 2009. Everybody will enjoy during sixty minutes of the best fireworks show.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man awoke in the night.
